Mommy Escapes: Golden Girls & NYC

Damon and I thought that once we had children, we would travel a lot less. It turns out, travel is way too ingrained in us. So we don't travel less, we just travel differently. We take fewer trips together and far more "girls trips" and "mancations," so that one of us is always home with the girls. On the rare occasion we do go on vacation together, or our trips overlap, our parents have been fantastic about traveling to Atlanta to cover.

Most recently, I went with three of my favorite travel gals to Florida for what we dubbed our "Golden Girls Trip." My sister and Joe were kind enough to let us stay in their beautiful coastal home in the sleepy retirement town of Englewood. We did a lot of eating, drinking and beaching. A much-needed rest and escape for all of us.

A few weeks later, Damon planned a Father's Day diving trip with his father, brother and cousin in the Bahamas. At the same time I planned to go to NYC to attend my cousin Will's wedding reception. Enter mom and dad Smith to watch the girls!

If you remember my disappointment in missing Will and Emily's wedding in remote Mexico (that is the part of our travel that HAS fallen to the way side for financial and timing reasons: Exotic International Trips). I was determined to make their NYC reception! So I did a 24-hour trip up just for the party. And it was worth it! Pictured above: Uncle Pat, Aunt Bernice, Me, Cousin Will.

The trips will continue... Damon is off to Vegas for a bachelor party in a couple of weeks and to keep things even, I'll be planning something fun and fantastic for the fall. Children have changed us dramatically, but it turns out there are some things we're not quite ready to sacrifice.
